MoreAt the Ctěnice Chateau from 20th January to 17th March 2019, the City of Prague Museum in cooperation with the Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony in Prague organises an exhibition of children’s drawings made for an art competition for school children in the regions of Karlovy Vary, Ústí nad Labem, and Liberec. The competition was joined by 32 schools which altogether sent 611 pictures. The winning picture was drawn by twelve-year-old Karolína Hrušková from T. G. Masaryk Primary School and Česká Kamenice Secondary Comprehensive School.
The main task of the Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony in Prague is to strengthen political, economic, and cultural bonds between Saxony and the Czech Republic. This also includes connection of schools and other institutions for school children and students, organisation of cultural events such as author readings, concerts, and exhibitions. The office is connected to the Saxon State Office in Dresden, the seat of the Saxon Prime Minister.
Children who wanted to take part in the competition were asked to depict a “Fairy-Tale-Like New Year” and they were free to use any art technique. Some of the children’s drawings were inspired by the Moritzburg Chateau in Saxony, which has been well-known for people of all ages for 45 years thanks to Václav Vorlíček’s Three Wishes for Cinderella. And why does the exhibition take place at Ctěnice? From autumn 2013 to spring 2014, the Ctěnice Chateau hosted an exhibition dedicated to the popular film jointly prepared by the City of Prague Museum and the Moritzburg Chateau. Cinderella is thus coming back to Ctěnice after five years.
