New possibilities to apply for an employee card for holders of visas for the purpose of leave to remain granted on the grounds of the armed conflict in Ukraine

Holders of visas for the purpose of leave to remain granted on the grounds of the armed conflict in Ukraine are newly able to apply for an employee card under the government’s economic migration programmes (Qualified Employee, Highly Qualified Employee and Key and Scientific Personnel Programme). Applications are only accepted at the diplomatic mission in Lviv and Kyiv from January 1, 2025.

The possibilities of applying for an employee card are being extended to two categories of persons:

  1. holders of visas for the purpose of leave to remain granted on the grounds of the armed conflict in Ukraine,
  2. foreigners staying for more than 2 years in another country on a long-term visa (in practice mainly holders of long-term Polish visas, which are automatically extended by Polish law). This possibility only applies to holders of a visa for the purpose of leave to remain granted on the grounds of the armed conflict in Ukraine. Holders of a visa for the purpose of leave to remain granted for any other reason are not eligible.

For applications at the diplomatic mission in Lviv and Kiev, there is the possibility to apply for a waiver of the obligation to apply in person.

For more information on the inclusion in the programmes, please visit the website of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. If interested in the programme, the employer, not the applicant for an employee card, must communicate with the Ministry.
