Conditions for travellers from Great Britain and Nothern Ireland

In view of the epidemiological situation in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Ministry of Health has issued  Protective Measures which determine conditions for travellers from these locations. All persons returning from these countries must take a PCR test or enter quarantine. Their free movement within the territory of the Czech Republic is limited until that time, subject to certain exceptions.

There has been a rapid increase in newly diagnosed cases of the Covid-19 disease in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (hereinafter referred to only as “Great Britain”) over the past few days, especially in South East England. Genetic analyses have shown that the cause of this is probably a new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Analyses to date have shown that this strain of the virus causes significantly higher contagion of the disease than the strain known to date and it is estimated that it has increased transmissibility, this being by as much as 70% (see the Threat Assessment Brief issued on 2020 December 2020 by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control). For this reason, a new Protective Measure has been issued by the Ministry of Health which determines that:

  1. With certain exceptions, all persons who arrived in the Czech Republic from 3:30 p.m. on 20 December 2020 and who stayed within the territory of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland over the past 14 days are prohibited from moving around freely within the territory of the Czech Republic for a period of 10 days, or until they have presented the result of a RT-PCR test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2, or until the quarantine measure ends. The test must be taken no earlier than the fifth to seventh day after arrival in the Czech Republic. The obligation to fill in the Arrival Form before entering the Czech Republic still applies (www.prijezdovyformular.cz).
  2. The obligation to fill in an Arrival Form before entering the Czech Republic and to take an RT-PCR test within at most 5 days of their return was imposed on all persons who arrived in the Czech Republic from 10 December 2020 until 3:30 p.m. on 20 December 2020 and who stayed within the territory of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland over the past 14 days, in compliance with Extraordinary Measure Ref. No. MZDR 20599/2020-43/MIN/KAN of 14 December 2020 and Extraordinary Measure Ref. No. MZDR 20599/2020-40/MIN/KAN of 30 November 2020. If they have not yet taken a test, the Regional Public Health Authority will impose a quarantine measure on these people consisting in the restriction of their free movement within the territory of the whole of the Czech Republic.
