Slam poetry is a form of original performance that blends poetry, theatre, and prose, offering a wide range of possibilities for self-expression. It is a broad and inclusive platform that can incorporate humour, absurdity, anger, seriousness, tenderness, visions, wishes, desires, impressions, love, values – in short, anything a person feels compelled to express. At its core, slam poetry is about self-realisation: sharing your truth with the world in the way you see and feel it.

During the course, you will

  • Build healthy self-confidence and overcome fear of speaking
  • Develop resilience to stage fright and pressure
  • Explore your emotions and imagination, and discover your own creative style
  • Practise creative writing, rhetoric, and quick thinking in unexpected situations
  • Tap into your inner poetics and learn to express your own opinions clearly
  • And most importantly — relax and stop being afraid

These skills and abilities can be useful at school (exams, presentations), in the workplace (interviews, meetings), and also in everyday private or public life (speeches, public speaking). Last but not least, they offer a great way to improve your Czech in an informal and playful way.

The course will be led by some of the leading figures on the Czech slam poetry scene: Tim Postovit, Honza Dibitanzl, Hanka Nguyen, and Sufian Massalema – all of whom have extensive experience in writing and public speaking at a professional, national level, not only within Czech slam poetry (more information about them is available in the registration form). In addition, other inspiring guest lecturers will also take part, offering their own unique perspectives and approaches.

The course is free of charge and will run from June to December 2025, with sessions every two weeks at the Scout Institute on Old Town Square (exact dates and times will be arranged in consultation with the participants). Occasional absence is permitted.

The course will be held in Czech, but you are welcome to occasionally use your mother tongue or mix languages — you can count on our support.

No previous experience is necessary. Anyone aged 16 to 24 and from a third country (i.e. any non-EU country), can write an email to robert.netuka@opu.cz or register via the QR code on the poster (or by completing the online Google registration form). We will get back to you. If you’re still unsure, just give it a try to see if you enjoy it.
