The Association for Integration and Migration (SIMI), together with its partners Refugees Welcome Italia and Fundacja Ocalenie, presents a new publication, “Hosting is More Than Housing”, which was created as part of the Erasmus+ strategic project and the Refugees Welcome! initiative.
The focus of the publication is on the provision of hosting arrangements – voluntary home sharing of individuals or families who provide temporary shelter to people with refugee experience. The text emphasizes that hosting does not only mean providing a roof over one’s head, but also supporting integration, navigating a new environment, and building relationships based on trust and mutual respect.
The handbook is intended for volunteer hosts, member organizations of the Refugees Welcome network, and local partners who implement these programs. It summarizes experiences from Czechia, Italy, and Poland and offers specific recommendations on how to set up hosting so that it is safe, dignified, and sustainable in the long term – for refugees, hosts, and entire communities. It also addresses practical issues related to cooperation between organizations and support services that can help make shared housing work well for everyone involved.
The publication is available in Czech and English:
