Multilingualism is a Treasure

This year, the Zaedno Association is once again organising its creative competition for children to encourage reading and writing in a second language, “Multilingualism Is a Treasure 2026”. The competition is open to children and young people growing up in a multilingual environment. Its aim is to encourage children to communicate in Czech and other languages, develop their creativity, and build a positive relationship with their linguistic and cultural identity.

This year’s competition theme focuses on journeys and travelling – in the past, present, and future. Participants can draw inspiration from the stories of famous travellers as well as from their own everyday journeys. Travelling can be about discovering new countries, cultures, and languages – or simply going to school, visiting family, or exploring nature. It can also take us along different routes and modes of transport, across maps and borders, through migration and journeys, into space or through time, or towards more environmentally friendly ways of exploring the world.

Children can submit texts or other creative works that combine Czech with another language they use at home or in their community. The competition offers an opportunity to share stories, experiences, and imagination across languages.

Entries will be accepted from 1 September to 4 November 2026. The awards ceremony will take place in November 2026 at the premises of the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic.
