Let’s Take Care of Your Health Together: Come and Get Tested

This article was written by the Czech AIDS Help Society (ČSAP) as part of a project offering free and anonymous testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections to both foreigners and residents of the Czech Republic. The project is supported by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.

ČSAP has long been committed to HIV/AIDS prevention, support, and education, and operates a network of counselling and testing centres across the country.

In this article, you’ll learn why regular testing is important, how the testing process works, who it’s intended for, and the practical benefits it provides – including detailed information about infections, counselling options, and support in the form of food and hygiene packages.

Your health deserves attention and care. Regular testing for HIV, syphilis, and viral hepatitis B and C is a safe and responsible step that can help detect hidden problems early. Testing is completely free, anonymous and conducted in a confidential setting. We’re here for everyone – including those who have recently moved to the Czech Republic or have been granted temporary protection.

Our goal is to protect the health of individuals and the whole community. That’s  why this project is carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. Testing also includes professional counselling to help you understand your results and advise you on what to do next.

Why Is Testing Important?

If you’re sexually active, have multiple partners, don’t always use protection, or come into contact with injectable drugs, testing is essential for your safety and the safety of your loved ones. Many infections show no symptoms but can cause serious health complications later. Early diagnosis means a better chance of effective treatment – and peace of mind.

What Should You Know?

  • HIV: Transmitted through blood, sexual contact, and from mother to child. It weakens the immune system if left untreated, but with modern treatment, people with HIV can live full and healthy lives.
  • Syphilis: Often begins with a small sore and can later damage blood vessels and nerves. It can be cured with antibiotics.
  • Hepatitis B: A liver infection that is treatable and preventable with vaccination.
  • Hepatitis C: Spread through blood and sometimes sexual contact. Chronic infection may lead to serious liver damage, but it is now effectively treatable.

Important Information for Your Peace of Mind

A positive test result will NOT lead to deportation from the Czech Republic or the loss of your job! On the contrary – early care and treatment protect both you and your loved ones. Your health status will remain confidential and your dignity will be respected. In the Czech Republic, treatment for sexually transmitted infections is covered by public health insurance.

How Does Testing Work?

The process is quick and discreet. A finger-prick blood sample takes just a few seconds and you will get your results within 15 minutes. Your trust is very important to us, so no one will ask you for your name or any other personal details.

We Are Here for You!

To make the testing experience more comfortable and supportive, we offer food and hygiene packages worth CZK 500–1000. For mothers with children, we provide baby diapers and clothes as needed.
