The Facebook page of the Information Portal for Foreigners, operated by the Czech Ministry of the Interior, has published practical information for third-country nationals planning to travel both within and outside the Schengen Area this summer.
Here is an overview:
If you are a third-country national residing in the Czech Republic on the basis of a residence permit or a long-term visa, you may travel within other Schengen Area countries for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
All you need is a valid passport and a valid residence permit (or a valid visa in your passport). Please note that a residence permit card alone is not a travel document.
If you are a family member of an EU citizen, different rules apply.
Please note that Ireland and Cyprus are not part of the Schengen Area and have their own visa policies. If you are planning a trip to either of these countries, we recommend contacting the relevant embassy or consulate.
We also recommend obtaining travel insurance when travelling outside Europe.
If you are a third-country national residing in the Czech Republic on the basis of a residence permit or a long-term visa, you may, in most cases, also travel to countries outside the Schengen Area. If you hold a long-term visa, make sure it allows you to return to the Schengen Area.
A Czech residence permit does not authorize you to stay in countries outside the Schengen Area. To enter another country, you must meet that country’s specific entry requirements, which are generally determined by your nationality.
In addition to your passport, you should also carry a valid residence permit. Without one, you may not be allowed to re-enter the Schengen Area during border control checks.
For more information, contact the diplomatic mission of the country you plan to visit.
We recommend following the Information Portal for Foreigners and its Facebook page. There you will find up-to-date information on the obligations of foreign nationals, forms, and contact details for Ministry of the Interior offices, as well as practical guidance on topics such as extending your stay or changing the purpose of your stay. The information is available in Czech and English, with selected topics also available in Ukrainian.
