Do you own a dog? The Central Dog Register (CEP) has been launched in the Czech Republic, and registering your dog is now a legal requirement. If your dog is not registered, you may face a fine of up to CZK 50,000. For registered breeders, the fine may be as high as CZK 300,000.
You do not register your dog at your municipal office. Registration is carried out by a vet. However, registration is not automatic – you must explicitly ask your vet to register your dog in the Central Dog Register.
It is not necessary to register your dog immediately. The government has set a three-year transition period.
How much does registration cost?
The Central Dog Register itself is funded by the state. However, a vet may charge a fee for carrying out the registration. The amount depends on the specific veterinary practice.
Further information can be found on the Central Dog Register website.
