Brochure: Civic Integration of Residents with Migrant Background in Prague 7

A new brochure by MigAct shows how residents with a migrant background get involved in community and civic life in Prague 7 and what supports the process of involvement.

The research is based on interviews, community meetings, and an analysis of available sources. It focuses on people’s everyday experiences and on the conditions that help them become active members of their local community.

How do migrants get involved?

People with a migrant background most often get involved through simple and open activities, such as volunteering, community centres, neighbourhood gatherings, or local events.

These forms of engagement allow for natural relationship-building and do not require complex navigation of the system.

What encourages involvement?

  • Open and welcoming environment
  • Personal invitation or support
  • Clear and available communication
  • Opportunity to actively participate and help shape activities

Personal relationships and practical experience play an important role.

What hinders involvement?

  • Language barrier
  • Lack of information
  • Cultural differences and insecurity
  • Lack of time
  • Fear of making mistakes or being rejected

These factors often combine and can restrict engagement in community life.

Summary and conclusion

The involvement of residents with a migrant background has positive impacts on the entire community.

It is key to create an open environment, improve access to information (including multilingual materials), and foster personal contact.

Civic integration is a long-term process that requires cooperation between the city district, organizations, and the residents themselves.
