Which Office to Contact?

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CR (MFA)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is responsible for the issuance of short-term visas. Applications must be submitted through the diplomatic missions of the Czech Republic in your home country.

For more information have a look at the official website of the MFA.

Ministry of the Interior of the CR (MOI)

In the Czech Republic, matters related to residence fall under the responsibility of two bodies of the Ministry of the Interior (MOI): the Foreign Police, and the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy (OAMP).

Make sure not to confuse the Foreign Police and the Department for Asylum and Migration Policy!

Foreign Police

You must appear at the Foreign Police office within three days of your first arrival in the Czech Republic to report your stay (unless your accommodation provider does this for you). This is also the office to contact if you need to arrange an invitation for relatives or friends. The Foreign Police conduct residence checks and address failures to comply with the conditions of your stay in the Czech Republic.

OAMP of the Ministry of the Interior

The Department for Asylum and Migration Policy (OAMP) – Foreign Nationals Residence Department is responsible for long-term visas, long-term and permanent residence permits, temporary residence of EU citizens and their family members, biometric cards, and related matters.

You are required to report all changes concerning your place of residence, surname, family status, and any changes in your travel document or residence document issued in the Czech Republic to the OAMP. A change of residence must be reported within 30 days, while other changes must be reported within 3 days. Always observe the deadlines!
