The district of Letňany acquired its character during the era of the first Czechoslovak Republic. At that time, the aircraft factory Letov was created. In the 1970s and 1980s, the first panel housing estate was built here. Due to its construction, a large part of the old Letňany was razed to the ground. A milestone in the development of Letňany was the construction of the Letňany Shopping Centre by Tesco. It is the largest shopping centre in the Czech Republic. It includes a multiplex cinema with 12 screening rooms and the Letňany Lagoon aquatics centre.
