This independent administrative unit was created in 2001 and performs administrative tasks for the cadastral areas of Řepy, Zličín and a part of Třebonice.

The Prague 17 City District consists of the Řepy cadastral area within the Prague 6 administrative region. Řepy can be found in the west of Prague, north of the place where the D5 motorway enters Prague. The first written mention of Řepy was made in the founding charter of the Břevnov monastery and it dates back to 993.

In 2016, Prague 17 used a subsidy programme for the first time to support the integration of foreigners. Thanks to this programme, kindergartens and primary schools in the area were offered accredited education programmes for teachers, educational workshops for pupils and a Czech language course for pre-schoolers. Kindergartens and primary schools could also make use of assistance in the form of translation and interpreting during enrolment days, class meetings, and other situations which require interpreting and mediation.
